Braces Bergen County

Who would have thought that braces would be in such high demand?

In the old days, braces were almost exclusive for children. Their parents would often push them towards getting braces, since it was common knowledge that they couldn’t get them as they grow up, but that is not true nowadays. In fact, adults are now requesting to get braces themselves, about as much as children, if not more so. This of course comes with the change in image perception and social media always pushing everybody to look their best, have the best clothes, the latest accessories, and of course a perfect smile. That is why we attempt to explain all you need to know about braces, and who is the best provider of braces Bergen county trusts most.

Who needs braces?

Braces (also known as orthodontics) is the art and science of arranging teeth. If you suffer from crowding, spacing, crooked teeth, or any other problem related to your teeth’s arrangement, then braces are the answer for you. Braces can also help in cases of overbites, underbites, and when the jaw sizes are mismatched.

How do braces work?

There are many systems for braces nowadays, each with their own method of function. These types include:

  1. Metallic Braces:

Traditional metallic braces are the oldest form of orthodontic treatment. This system consists of square shaped metallic brackets attached to the outer surface of the teeth, crossed by a metallic wire which is held firm in place with circular, colorful elastic bands. The whole assembly works in unison to pull the teeth to the needed position.

  2. Clear braces:

Exactly the same system and method of action as metal braces. The main difference is the appearance. Clear brackets are made of transparent ceramic material. The wire is coated with a white covering, and the elastics are white or transparent, making the whole system far better looking than metal braces.

  3. Lingual braces:

Lingual braces are attached to the inner surface of the teeth, further adding to the esthetic appearance. The mode of action is the same as the previous types. Lingual braces are still fairly new and still under a lot of research, but a very esthetic option favored by many adults.

  4. Invisalign:

This is where all the difference lies. Unlike the previous types, Invisalign has no brackets, no wires or elastics. All these are replaced by a series of plastic transparent molds called aligners. These are placed on the outer surface of the teeth (without attachment) and apply pressure rather than pull the teeth to the desired location. The whole system not only looks great, but is far more comfortable, incredibly accurate, and faster than fixed types. Finally, you can remove the aligners when you need. So when you attempt to brush and floss, you’ll find the endeavor a lot easier.
