Everybody wants braces, and yet not everybody can stand the way they look. That is of course talking about the traditional metallic braces, which are very effective, but quite unsightly. Newer trends and techniques are all directed towards solving that particular problem, and so emerged a number of more esthetic braces options such as clear braces and lingual braces. Perhaps the greatest of these innovations is Invisalign. If you heard of Invisalign – and you probably have – and thought it might be the best option for you, then undoubtedly you must have thought “Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?”.
We are here to answer that particular question, among others concerning Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?
On the off chance that you don’t already know, Invisalign is one of the greatest innovations in the field of orthodontics, of the entire dental field in fact. The idea was envisioned about 15 years ago, and has been perfected ever since.
Invisalign came about to solve all the problems of traditional braces. No more metal brackets, wires and elastics. In fact, nothing is attached to your teeth. Instead, the system uses a set of transparent, highly polished plastic molds called aligners. You wear the aligners on the outer surface of the teeth, and they apply pressure to move the teeth where needed.
What is so great about Invisalign?
What’s not to like? It looks far better than metal braces, and every other esthetic braces option such as clear braces and lingual braces. It is also far more comfortable, with no chance of injuring the soft tissues. The system is entirely dependent on computers, meaning it is incredibly accurate and quite fast as well.
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
To find out if Invisalign is the right choice for you, ask yourself the following questions:
-
Am I old enough?
There is no extent to how old you must be to get Invisalign, but there is a young margin. You need to be over 12 years of age (in that case you would benefit from a system known as Invisalign teen) since that is the age when all your adult teeth have come out.
-
Will Invisalign work for my case?
Generally, Invisalign can fix almost every problem related to teeth arrangement. Crooked teeth, crowding, spacing, overbites .. Invisalign can handle them all. However, it can’t deal with problems related to the mismatch of the jaw bones. So if the problem is deeply seated with the bone, then you would probably need surgery together with traditional braces.

Is it worth that much extra money?
Invisalign is not cheap. Compared to traditional braces, you can end up paying over $1000 more. So you have to ask yourself: is that price difference worth it? Is looking better, feeling more comfortable, having to visit the orthodontist less, and almost 100% accuracy worth going that extra mile financially? Only you can answer that.
So when it comes to Invisalign, the perks just keep piling on. Consult with your orthodontist to know if it is the right choice for you.
